Every adult supervising aquatic activities must complete the Safe Swim Defens, Safety Afloat and Hazardous Weather training. Every adult must also have taken and been classified as a swimmer during a swim classification test administered within the last 12 months.
Every youth and adult wishing to participate in swimming must have taken a swim classification test within the last 12 months. Swimmers MUST remain in the swim areas designated to their ability group (Non Swimmer, Beginner, and Swimmer)
Limited to water extending to depths just over the head. Scouter MUST pass the Beginner test
Limited to water no more than 12 feet deep. Scouter MUST pass the Swimmer test
Beginner: Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, swim 25 feet on the surface, stop, turn sharply, resume swimming as before, and return to starting place.
Swimmer: Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and begin swimming. Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.
